Project Summary

DLLD is a Chinese business that sells micro-hydro power equipment for rural electrification. DLLD manufactures 12 types of micro-hydropower generator sets, most with built-in voltage regulators for easy off-grid installation. Micro-hydro power systems do not impede water flow and are considered among the most cost effective solution for remote areas. The micro-hydro power generators manufactured by DLLD are used for cooking, heating and to power the occasional radio or television. They also provide night time lighting for homework, housework and business.

Issues

Thirty million Chinese do not have access to electricity and of this amount, one-third live in Southwest China. DLLD specifically targets rural villages in this region, where water is abundant and the need for energy is great. DLLD’s systems provide much needed energy for lighting, heating and cooking and reduce the fuel wood consumption which improves indoor air quality.

Progress To-Date

DLLD is an established enterprise with more than 10 years in the business. The company required, however, an investment in order to capitalize on expanded government programs that support clean energy. To this end, E+Co made an investment in the company in 2007 in the form of a Joint Venture, which is the only investment structure legally available to E+Co in China. With the involvement of a foreign investor, the JV created by DLLD and E+Co can apply for an export license and thus directly explore international markets in Southeast Asia and other region.
